I wasn't a big fan of it. I hope they don't use piano on all of their new tracks, because it seems kind of gimmicky. The guitar solo was probably my favorite part, and the lyrics were kind of trite. Jerry's voice was exceptional as always as were the drums.
Trophy Scars has used piano quite a bit before... and I found the lyrics very relatable. It was something completely different lyrically than anything else by them. You can say most of Jerry's lyrics are trite, but it's the sincerity that make it hit home for me. Knives and razors and ghosts have all been done a lot, but whatever.
You've said "I love you" before (no matter the context)... and when one has incredibly strong feelings for someone else, is one really concerned with if the phrases you communicate are overused?
If one wastes too much time in technicalities, you lose sincerity and emotion. I can go on and on about this... and there's this big thing with certain groups of people that I really get passionate over... It's how I live my life-- one of the reasons I don't go to public school and I am such an inconsistant personality
Enough typing. Back up your claim. Srsly. Piano is never a gimmick unless you're making fun of Liberachi. (I'm still a bit on edge from a minute ago... and this song really was paramount for me and my current situation and it's complicated to explain... theywerexlove knows a little about what I'm talking about)

lol, the piano in scars was here before you were born buddy, or did you just find out about them last month when you heard "jerry's the name" on myspace?
Piano is used on a good 80% of our songs... It has always been used and we continue to use it on Alphabets. If you think the piano is a gimmick you should've stopped listening awhile back.
As far as my lyrics being trite... hmmm. I dont know how to reply. Maybe not everyone gets what it is I'm aiming at but there are bigger targets than broken hearts (if you think most of these songs are about failed relationships you might as well stop listening to Trophy Scars). most of my writing stems from the use of language - there are many dualistic words that have been implemented into my writing as an assistant to let you pick and choose themes for yourself. If the writing comes off as trite, it might because you have a simple theme in mind or aren't really getting it at all.
Razors, ghosts, knives? These symbols have plagued generations of songwriters as misguided clichés. However, I don't believed I have misused one of these mundane symbols in a context which would allow for me to even mutter a cliché - but again - your interpretation is your own.
You see - "pictures, papers, pencils, razors" - is literally about art supplies - the idea of art supplies is a metaphor - not razors itself. "…Razors" doesn't foreshadow suicide, or pain - this song doesn't really have a dark nature. "Ghosts" - that's huge. I don't need to reiterate on how much I appreciate the literature of existentialism but that might explain why most of my lyrics revolve around supernatural entities. "Knives" was used once on "Hospital Music" as a slang for pills and maybe a few times on Darts to the Sea in poor taste - but hey... we were all 18 once right?
Calling my lyrics trite is wholesomely offensive on numerous levels - I can't even begin to tell you how much reading, thought, and careful placement of every word goes into the Trophy Scars writing process. And as a writer... that's about 12 years of serious work that has just been smeared by one trite word. “Trite.” Opinions are opinions, but I worked too hard and too well to be belittled by someone who might not fully grasp where I'm coming from.

AND the sincerity is synonomous with how serious I really take everyone of my words - from polar bears to alligators. I am not fcuking around. There is a plethora of beautiful symbols used in my writing that no one has used to define things like insomnia or infanticide.
Snakes on a plane! Christ!

People dont seem to relize that their are words behind words and cant seem to grasp them so dont like be let down because some waldo cant see the life in your writtings and just thinks everything is about the "scene" i guess...but idk i love your writings im always so excited to see what you have to say, i quote you more then any writter and when it comes to the end youre really doing this for us your fans, i mean everyone has their own opinion but thats just ridic. as saying that gandhi lied when he said "a rich man life is a gehtto, a poor mans life is a kingdom" or something like that but yeah feel acomplished! because most of us here love you and your writings!
Thanks bruddah.. sorry for lashing out - I just was so confident that everyone here "got" my lyrics. Sorta. Thanks Eddie

Yikes, Jerry got PISSED !!!!!! hahahaha. jk. No man, dont get too hung up on one view. You know what you're trying to convey, ergo it should'nt matter what someone else has to say about what the meaning is if it isn't what you're saying. Even moreso if its clear they dont get what that meaning is. Some people just aren't that intellectual is all. haha
But at any rate, the song kinda really didnt sound at all like a "relationship" song. The words didnt match up if you looked at it from the perspective of a "heartbreak situation". Especially when you started naming off odd art utensils and using abstract anatomical refferences to ghosts (which happens quite a bit when you write which is freakin sweet). I think the "Can't stop kissing you", "I'll never write a love song again", "I'll never again" parts threw people off (did for me the first couple of times I listened to it"). Honestly I thought from that part and the more cryptic parts of the song you might have been talking about writers emotionally and how many of them when stuck philosophically or at a loss to write anything tend to get extremely depressed (I know I do). So with the refference of knives, pencils, and razors led me to believe it was about when writers go through that, and find themselves in a type of existential bind, its losing ones inspiration to continue writing, which in essence could be viewed as "losing a loved one" or saying "I'll never fall in [LoVe] again. I dunno, thats what I got from it in the long run. From what you said I'm still pretty off but hey, I'm getting there. I dig off the simple usage of words. Putting them together in patterns like an artist and molding them into something cryptic and sort uncanny. It may not be clear sometimes, but hey, it doesnt always have to be. Look at the Beatles when they got into their "I Am The Walrus" phase. I've been listening to Pink Floyd since I was a kid and I STILL dont get what the **** they're talking about more often than not (Excluding "The Wall" of course. I could write an series of essays on the meanings behind that sh*t). But dont sweat it Jer. Keep writing bro. You know we got you. (:
PS
I ****in totally dig when you guys use piano. As a matter of fact, me and my bud Calvin listen to "Traps and Tricks And Such" constantly (the concierto part is freaking intense). And we're forming our band to have a piano player in the band period. Guitar,Bass,Drums,Piano, and dual vocals is what we're aiming for.
however - i specifically said "thought i'd never write a love song again... then agian i think i'll never again,". And i dont mention ghosts in this one - in fact i dont think i mention ghosts at all on Alphabets. i used "ghosts" a lot in Hospital Music. This song in particular has to do with time - and not being able to write about it. I used a true depiction of the fleeting time; and with that goes my favorite memory in thing in the world.

Jerry, don't think my little allusion to your use of "razors, knives, and ghosts" was in any way supporting pixiesfan. I totally understand that intelligent people are able to think of other meanings than death and suicide. Personally whenever I heard razors, I'd think about cocaine because of my fascination with Kate Moss and Gia Carangi... beautiful, ground breaking, fashion icons to whom I can wholly relate (especially Gia and her mother and they were both short ha).
I've not been 18 yet, but I'm getting there. I'm more like a 30-something with this job though. People are always thinking I'm like 22... and I can also be extremely childish to make up for growing up too fast.
I love Alchemist. Alchemists. with everything in me. So there.

I could of sworn it was going, "pictures, papers, pencils, erasers..." And an eraser is an art supply too. But then again, I can't tab lyrics at all.Crazy.
I agree... I thought it was erasers too until I saw the lyrics.
