Well, I know I'm buying a copy of Darkness, so I feel alright doing it.
And I don't want to condone "stealing" it, but all you really need is a male to male 1/4 inch cord going from your headphone jack to your microphone jack. Then open the program Audacity, adjust the computer's volume, hit record, then play the song. When the song is done, stop recording. Then export it. There are other ways, though.
I think of it as pirating if you don't plan on buying the album; if you spread the mp3 around to others who won't buy end up buying it. It's all about the intention.
I suppose that's one way to think about it. I dunno though. I think I'd be likely to both buy the mp3 before the CD comes out and buy the CD anyway - if I liked the song that much. The temptation is strong though. Very strong.
Also, not to condone this any more than it already is, but there's an easier way to do it off of audacity. At least on some computers. I don't think it works on Macs (which is what I have now), but I remember using it to record things off of voice chats, back in the day. You could record any audio your computer was streaming. It worked vice versa for streaming music into chats too, actually. I believe it had to do something with that little drop down menu with "default input source," but I can't remember what used to come up as the menu options...
