So I have decided that on march 10th I am gonnaaaa go around town and go to downtown SD and put up my bad luck stencil everywhere. What do you clever kittens think?
I don't think they're putting it up exactly at midnight... just me. O_O BECAUSE IT'S NOT THERE NOW, BISHES. No but really, I better get a super special shipment with my preorder...full of cummiez and use condoms. Because I heard this album cures AIDS... so i might as well get AIDS to prove this fact.
Anna Lucia Lyrics my good buddy and I figured out.
Anna Lucia steps out of her car, loosens her scarf as she enters the bar. Then she goes dancin' and romancin'. Anna Lucia drinks rum for revenge, thinks of her cowboy all covered in red. Then she just smiles, turns to her left and Anna makes talk with the man to her side. Asks of his plans for the rest of the night. Then he says, "Anna, you're gorgeous."
Then she falls into his arms, says, "This won't be so hard, just love you over nothing, over something."
Girl's gotta do what a girl's gotta do. Doesn't matter how she gets it or if she speaks the truth. Her eyes bright with love and a warm sense of touch, she confesses up to heaven just to kill the god above.
Anna Lucia just follows his car. Marks on a street while he opens his door to his apartment. But she's conflicted. Anna conceals a blade in her purse: her mind is made up when she pulls down her skirt. She says, "Please excuse me, I'll be right back, hun." Anna goes back to her bag for the knife. Returns to the room and then turns out the light. Goodnight, goodnight.
For the wolves that try to hurt us. For the wolves that don't desert us. For the wolves that don't deserve us. Here's luck's revenge: He spots her knife when she gets on top and asks her calmly what she's going to do, then she looks up at the ceiling then cries, says, "I want revenge."
Then he grabs her by her arms, says, "Will it fix your heart? Damn...just kill me now over nothing, over something." Yeah... Then she falls back to her knees, screams, "Please don't break my heart, just love me over nothing, just something." Yeah... For the snakes that will betray us. For the sharks that still destroy us. For the folks who set your heart on fire. Who's crying now? "Anna Lucia," he said, "I'm pleased to meet you. Please don't say goodnight, no, no." "Anna Lucia," he said, "I'm pleased to meet you. Please don't call this luck, no."
Anna Lucia, I'm pleased to meet you. Please don't say goodnight, no, no. Anna Lucia, I'm pleased to meet you. Please don't call this luck, no.
the lyrics to the song are amazing... thats all i have to say...
oh yah.. meow.

Yeah and notice how every time they change, they lose fans. Changes should be subtle and add to the style they already spent years creating, not something totally different. My problem isn't the music; the music is great. I love the instrumentation. It's just the vocals. I can't stand it.
Personally, I don't feel change 'should' be any certain way. This album represents three years (three years!) of composing. Previous albums appear to have had about a year or two between them. I don't feel Jerry randomly decided to alter his voice. A year alone of singing (shows, recording, demos, practicing, etc.) is going to have an impact on an individual's vocal style whether they are welcome to it or not (more so the former in this case, I'd imagine). It's like growing a plant in a closed container: it'll eventually outgrow it's quarters and branch out. Natural. So...consider three years of vocal work.
But, like I said, it's awful to argue over likability of something (I'm just curious where you acquired your 'losing fans' statistic, man).
I feel that every change with Trophy Scars is an inevitable one of maturation and/or experimentation. Throughout Alphabets, you hear Jerry dabbling in lower, more gravelly deliveries, distinct from the higher-pitched older songs. Hell, it's even in Goodnight Alchemy. Subtle, but it's there. So, personally, I've found the change to be quite gradual (especially when the three year gap has been filled with the availability of various released demos - "Bad View" and "The Cowboy Red" - and live videos), and I'm enjoying the changes incredibly. I still get chills.
Last thing: the 'style' they've created is still subject to edit and creation...I mean, they're still trucking along, fashioning the style like they have been for seven years.
He's completely right man. All my trophy scars listening friends each have their favorite album, each hold something special to that album. And if you're referring to AA as "the best sound any band has had", I'd disagree. Tscars is my favorite band, but AA doesn't compare, maybe lyrically. But it's jerry, you can always count on those lyrics.
You sound like people put style on a chart, and they plan a whole album ahead of time. They don't go "OK SO LAST ALBUM, WE SOUNDED MORE LIKE _____, THIS ALBUM WE SHOULD HAVE VERSE, BRIDGE, BREAKDOWN, EVERYSONG! GO!" Style isn't just mapped out and ADDED. It just happens, that's what makes it STYLE. I really don't think it's that MUCH of a leap genre wise, and even if you think it is, almost all bands do it. It's like ever said. Only certain bands/artists can pull this off though. A great example is... Tom Waits. If you have heard a few whole albums of Tom's.. they go from jazzy, to bluesy, to crazy experimental accordion nonsense. I still enjoy all of these different works though.
I just don't get how anyone can listen to his voice on this record and tolerate it. I'm gonna miss when his voice sounded like it does in Bad Dreams when he says "I have time, right?". That part teased me. I feel like this album could be amazing if he didn't sound like he was trying to take a **** the entire time.
